Take it Further challenge January

January 7, 2008

from Sharon B’s Take it Further Challenge page… “Ask yourself who do you look up to and admire? Why? What is it you admire about them?  Take the idea, develop it into a resolved design during that month and apply it to fiber or paper.”   The quilter I admire most is Ruth McDowell. Her piecing techniques are great and they’re not too difficult if approached methodically and carefully, not my best characteristics.  I’ve been working through her book  Ruth B. McDowell’s Piecing Workshop with a group at Sowing Sisters quilt shop in the San Diego area. So for this challenge I’m going to put together the leaf/tree practice piece quilt shown on page 63.  So doing a pattern out of a book isn’t very creative. I don’t care for the fourth block with the inset circle and square so I’m redesigning it to be another leaf block and that will be  the original design element.  The color scheme is a triad: blue-green/red-violet/yellow-orange or  turquoise/bright purple/gold.Looking forward to this.  Will post pictures when I figure out how!
